![]() Waverley StationProposals for new station, above ground development and open park. Second prize in international competition was followed by publication, exhibition, and further development of scheme. The Waverley Valley, originally the moat to Edinburgh Castle, is a unique and dynamic environment, a place of arrival and breathing space within central Edinburgh. There is potential to create public environments that link the Old and New Towns. Our proposal begins by extending Princes Gardens, from The Mound releasing views of the dramatic arches of North Bridge. The park gives access across the valley to the proposed development of Market Street. A retail and ticketing mezzanine in the station links to Waverley Market and the development at Market Street incorporating cafes, restaurants, shops and galleries. Replacing the station roof with a continuous landscaped roof provides an uninterrupted public park. The roof has openings to bring ample light to the interior. A New conference / exhibition hall, is massed as a counterpoint to Calton Hill opposite. |
