Stalybridge Regeneration, Manchester

Masterplanning, phasing and design proposals for Urban Splash’s 4.5 acre Castle Street Redevelopment Area in central Stalybridge, comprising the restoration and conversion of the Grade I Listed Longlands Mill complex and demolition & new-build to adjacent sites to create a vibrant live, work and play quarter.
The phased scheme is to total some 300 variously sized apartments, half basement parking, workspace, workshops & some retail, cafe / gym / cinema / hostel tower, planned using a flexible matrix and typologies.
Urbanistically the project takes advantage of its position between the Tame River and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, inter-connecting with the town, and developing open space strategies.
Priestman Architects were short-listed down to 4 for one of several phases in 2004.
