Stockholm City West

Commissioned design studies for a major air rights development in central Stockholm, comprising 90,000sqm of offices, hotel and conference centre, with public open space linking to main bus terminal and rail station, to be constructed above working main rail lines.
The project is part of wider urban renewal initiative in Stockholm involving plans to develop over the railway lines for a mixture of uses and to reconfigure the lake side environment by realigning trunk roads in underground tunnels, and many public use buildings have been put forward including a new Nobel Museum.
Public open space is intended to contribute as a setting and immediate address for the hotel and conference centre, as well as catalyst for urban activities. The scheme uses office space, partly incorporating the existing Swedish Railway office building on the site, as the profitable element to cover exceptional site development costs such as the provision of the over-rail structural deck.
The conference centre building is designed to have flexible use, accommodating 2,000 people in the largest hall. To be successful in the hotel and Congress Hall market, we have created a building that is recognized in its surroundings and to have a great architectural presence.
