![]() Mews House, Belgravia3 storey remodelled mews house for private client, completed 1998The house uses an inverted section, with guest bedrooms and lounge located at ground floor, generous entertaining spaces at first floor, and a private suite at second floor. An open 'scala regia' stair occupies a transitional zone of entrance, passage, vertical movement and glass bridge. The stair, animated by natural and artificial light, reveals the full height of the house. The sculpted object is a clear visual and functional theme, which is then interrupted by kitchen enclosure, edge of void benching and top floor dressing room, and enhanced by a narrow roof light and light boxes relating to the reconfigured sash windows. The living room overlaps the stair, and is connected to a dining area with terrace beyond. The plan is completed by the kitchen with sliding panels reinforcing a dynamic open plan. The sinuous sequence of movement continues on the upper levels, study overlooking the stair, main bedroom, and final privacy of the bathroom. Stair zone, dissolved compartmentation, and non-axial movement structure a dwelling that articulates the complexity of daily life. Contract Value: £430,000 |
